Longtown Primestock Sale Report

C&D Auction Marts had forward an entry of 5,157 sheep comprising of 2 Spring Lamb, 2,692 hoggs and 2,463 cast ewes & rams at their weekly sale at Longtown Mart on Thursday 17th April 2025.

Topping the sale was a single Dorset lamb at £170 from Quelch, Ballycoach Smithy

PRIME HOGGS

A reduced show of 2,692 prime hoggs were forward with trade being very similar on the week. Export hoggs were in short supply and sought after; also heavy hoggs are wanted, showing signs of improvement. Many more can be sold to vendor advantage on a weekly basis.

Well fed hoggs of all weight categories and grades are still keenly sought after and way short of purchaser requirements. Please don’t hesitate to contact our auctioneers for all enquiries regarding prime sheep trade and sales.

Topping the sale was a fantastic single Beltex hogg at £200 from Roots, Kilnford Croft, Dumfries.

Top price per kilo was a single Beltex hogg at 427p from Lawson, Pasture House, Bolton Low Houses.

A select show of cull cows sold to increased rates of return as new purchasers appear around the ring side looking for numbers of cast cows and prime cattle. Quantities  are needed on the weekly basis to satisfy an ever-increasing customer base here at Longtown auction.

Top price per kilo was achieved twice at 268ppk from Copeland, Nether Collinhurst for a Aberdeen Angus cow and a Beef Shorthorn cow from JD Thomson, Pilmuir Farm.

Top price per head was a 670kg Beef Shorthorn cow realising £1795 from JD Thomson, Pilmuir Farm.
